Ideals for at home Activities for Kids!

With summer here and the kids out of school, I am sure you hear, "mom or dad, I'm bored"  I know I do and school hasn't even been out for a month yet!

Here are a couple of ideals for ya for those Summer time blues...

Make and Take show you how to make a “Summer Tub o’ Fun“

The Happy Housewife has 85 fun kid-friendly activity cards for when the kids get "bored"

Here are a few more ideals for you!

*Have a “Christmas in July” day – decorate a backyard tree with popcorn, and with pinecones dipped in peanut butter (for the birds to eat) and rolled in birdseed. Using newspaper, wrap “used, but loved” gifts taken from around the house or make gifts! Then finish it off with a turkey dinner.
( I think this a really cool ideal!)

*If you have a handheld GPS, take them Geocaching.

*You can make a list of items that would be found in your yard and give the kids a baggy to go find the items. Set a time limit and see who finds the most. You could write down 6 blades of grass, a red leaf, a stick shaped like a Y, etc... get creative!

*Seashell Wind Chimes

Got a whole collection of shells just gathering dust in your closet? You and your child can make wonderful wind chimes out of those shells. You'll have to help by drilling a small hole into one end of each shell. Use your largest shell for the top, and drill several holes into that shell along its edges. Then, help your child tie fishing line to each hole. Cut the fishing line in lengths of one to two feet, then tie smaller shells at varying intervals along the line to create the chimes. You can even paint the shells different colors if you like!  ( we will be doing this FOR SURE)

*Flashlight Tag
This game is best played in the evening. Give one child a flashlight, and designate a base, such as the front porch or swing set. The person who has the flashlight is it, and they tag the others by shining the flashlight on them as they hide. If a person makes it back to the base before they are tagged, they're safe!

*Lightening Bugs

Who hasn't caught lightening bugs in a jar? Kids LOVE THIS! Find a plastic jar, and poke a few holes in the lid. Your child will love chasing the fireflies across the yard!  Make sure to let them go before you head in the house for the night!

*Summer Journaling

Give your children blank journals or notebooks and have them personalize the cover. Set aside fifteen minutes each day as journaling time and have them write about their day. Encourage them to collect tickets, trinkets, and other memorabilia from their summer outings and paste them in their journal. Your children and you will love looking back at your summer activities from the child’s view!

  1. Having kids just be bored, its good for them to learn to occupy themselves. We won't always be around to keep them occupied and sometimes things in life are boring.
